What the view shows
Reading the ammonia emissions declared by plants and the coverage limits of the register.
The view adopts the native IED administrative scope: 1,242 livestock farms associated with code 6.6(a), 6.6(b) or 6.6(c). Of these, 701 (56.4%) have an ammonia declaration specifically for 2024 and together declare 13,931.5 tonnes. The territorial distribution is concentrated: Lombardy alone declares 6,916.7 tonnes, 49.6% of the total; Lombardy, Emilia-Romagna, Veneto and Piedmont together reach 89.1%.
The remaining 541 plants within the IED scope (43.6%) do not report an NH₃ declaration for 2024 and appear on the map as data not available, not as a zero value. Of these, 521 are still listed as active in the official IED installations register; the absence of data is therefore not linked to plant closure.
The E-PRTR file also contains 63 Italian plants with a 2024 NH₃ declaration in livestock sector 7 but no associated livestock IED 6.6 code. The view selector can add them to the native IED scope: they are identified by a dashed halo and also enter the ranking. The 63 declarations amount to 1,122.3 tonnes; including them, the E-PRTR total is 764 declarants and 15,053.8 tonnes. The register divergence does not, by itself, determine the plants' permitting status.
The figure represents only part of the emissions potentially present in the territory. The cattle sector, which is not included in E-PRTR Annex I livestock Activity 7(a) or in the IED 6.6 codes used by this view, does not appear in this value even though, according to European inventories, it is the leading source of livestock ammonia. The total reported here for the four regions therefore does not include cattle emissions.
